I’m often asked how I came to this ministry of presenting the Bible dramatically in live performances and through audio recordings of its text. That’s a long story, but the capsule version is that drama, theater, and storytelling is the medium that God has used in my life to fulfill my desire to make Christ known. The event that brought me over the line to fully accepting the reality of Jesus came after I read parts of Galatians and all of John’s Gospel in one sitting.

The story of Jesus in the gospel was particularly gripping. I thought Jesus was going to come right out of the pages of the Bible and take me with Him. When I got to the cross, I was in tears. I saw the sacrificial love and I responded to Jesus emotionally. I knew instantly that Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection was supremely important to me. I knew that I would never again be the same.

I had a similar reaction the first time I read Genesis. The hugeness and audacity of the first book of the Bible is just overwhelming. Genesis is filled with massive personalities that made an extraordinary impression on me. I was immediately struck by how God interacted with them personally. Genesis showed me that God is directing the course of events to a particular divine purpose for His glory and our ultimate good.

I think what motivated me to record books of the Bible—and to present them dramatically—was a deep desire to recapture and share those powerful initial experiences I had with the God of the Bible. I want to share my personal experience that, though I am more sinful and weaker than I ever imagined, in Christ, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope.

I came to faith because of how deeply the words of the Bible hit me. So when I tell a Bible story, I have tremendous confidence that God is going to do a mighty work—by the very act of unleashing His Word. Therefore, my objective is simply to engage the hearer.
