About the Author:

Daniel Covell, Ph.D., is an associate professor of sport management in the School of Business at Western New England College. After earning his BA from Bowdoin College, he worked for a decade in secondary education as a coach, teacher, and athletic administrator. He went on to earn his masters and doctorate degrees in sport management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While working on his PhD., he served as an administrative intern in the Harvard University athletic department. Covell's research interests focus mainly on management issues in intercollegiate and secondary school athletics. Recent publications have appeared in Applied Research in Coaching and Athletics and Sport Marketing Quarterly.
Carol A. Barr, PhD., currently serves as associate dean for undergraduate programs and campus relations in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In this role she serves as the academic dean for all business school students, and she represents the Isenberg School on various committees throughout the university. She also holds an associate professor position in the Department of Sport Management. She earned a BS in athletic administration from the University of Iowa, and earned her MS and Ph.D. in sport management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her research interests lie in the areas of management issues and gender equity within collegiate athletics. She has published articles in the Journal of Sport Management, Sport Marketing Quarterly, Journal of Higher Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Sex Roles, and the International Sports Journal.
