I'm in a mountain village of the Philippines, watching a young teenage boy reading The Dog Who Loved Jesus. He is engrossed, his lips moving as he concentrates. English is not his native language, but he stays with the book, absorbing, I hope, the message of love and loyalty that he finds there. In this country boys aren't afraid to say they love Jesus. They are devoted to their families and understand responsibility.

About the Author:

I've written other books about dogs (take a look at Little Man in a Dog Suit), but The Dog Who Loved Jesus is my favorite. My own dogs aren't as smart as little Cherem, but they are lap dogs, not stray street dogs like the dog in my book. My dogs love to run on the beach with me when it isn't raining. Because I wanted to visit my four grandchildren half a world away, I'm in the Philippines looking out at high, green mountains and a stream far below the house where I'm staying. It's perched on a cliff, like all the houses in this village and is full of busy, lively children. Village people wander in and out, talking and eating, sharing everything they have. They are Christians here and act like it.
