About the Author:

James Earl Haynes Jr. was born in Bakersfield, California at the height of World War II shortly after his father was shipped overseas with the U.S. Army prior to the invasion of Europe. The eldest of four siblings, he played baseball at Bakersfield College and Los Angeles State University, graduating with a degree in Journalism. Always an avid reader of history and adventure and a writer, he has written for the Arizona Republic as a columnist, and co-written several books. A Desperate Journey is his first book co-written with his son. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and is the grandfather of three. Andrew Jordan Haynes was born in Fort Worth, Texas and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, where he graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in history and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Order. An avid World War II historian, Andrew has traveled the world to see many of the locations mentioned in this book, and has been a member of numerous living history groups, in an effort to explore what the men and women experienced in the Second World War. He flies 747s as an international airline pilot. Married with three children, Andrew and his family split their time between Ettlingen, Germany and Fort Worth, Texas.
