Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard (1803-1847) was a French artist and satirist who was known by his pseudonym, J. J. Grandville. Un Autre Monde (Another World), published in 1844, was a highly original work, its surreal illustrations veering from whimsical to nightmarish. This coloring book contains thirty-two high-resolution reproductions of the original illustrations. Illustrations are on one side of a page, with room for notes on the other side.

I really enjoy working on the Historic Images series of adult coloring books from Hawaiian Heritage Press, with its focus on high-quality, unique images. Discovering J.J. Grandville's work was a delightful revelation. Grandville's is bizarre, funny, and a little frightening. It makes for an intense coloring experience.

Frankie Bow lives in Hawaii and writes murder mysteries. She is delighted to have been invited to collaborate on the Island Colors series of all-ages coloring books from Hawaiian Heritage Press. Like her amateur sleuth Molly Barda, Frankie teaches at a public university. Unlike her protagonist, she is blessed with delightful students, sane colleagues, and a perfectly nice office chair. She believes if life isn't fair, at least it can be entertaining. She believes that coloring books are an excellent and healthful alternative to stashing that bottle of bourbon in the bottom file drawer.
