The Tennessee 26th Infantry Regiment was organized September 6, 1861. It entered Confederate service September and October, 1861 and was reorganized in September, 1862. It formed part of 4th Consolidated Tennessee Infantry Regiment which was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, May 1, 1865. The regiment lost greatly at Fort Donelson. It fought throughout the war with the Army of Tennessee participating in the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin and Nashville, and the Carolinas Campaign.
