We will never grasp God without Jesus "Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ. For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ," Colossians 2:8-9 So much time is wasted people trying to explain the world without God, and God without Jesus but you can't do it. The same of the New Testament is true of the Old Testament. If you don't study the Old Testament, your understanding of the New Testament is stunted. So taking it a step further, if you don't look for Jesus in the Old Testament, you are missing the point of the revelation found within it. This study doesn't seek to be an exhaustive treatment of the subject. There are certainly things I have left out, types I have not examined, theophanies we don't fully examine, and certainly prophesies we couldn't study. However, this is intended to teach and inspire to deeper study. Look closely, in virtually every story, instruction, and prophesy, the point is Jesus. Now ... we COULD say that all of these similarities are incidental, analogical, interesting but not intentional. Or, we could believe that God always was telling a story. HIS Story is always being told in History, and so he shaped History to tell HIS Story. If so, then we can conclude that God intentionally told his story through types, even when we did not understand them while they were happening. On my first day of "The History of Western Civilization" in college, Dr. Goode, our professor said, "This is History. This means it is HIS story. History is about God." So, look for HIS story, God in the Flesh, Immanuel, the Seed of the Woman, The Angel of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God.
