La leyenda cuenta que Lucía Miranda, mujer de uno de los militares españoles del fuerte, y Mangorá, cacique de los timbués, anduvieron en amores. Pero la imposibilidad de esta mezcla entre naturales y españoles, hasta entonces prohibida, hizo que el desesperado Mangorá atacara el fuerte para llevarse a Lucía. Así es una versión de la leyenda, que tiene sus variaciones en esta novela corta de Rosa Guerra, aparecida por primera vez en 1858.

About the Author:
Rosa Guerra, educadora, poeta, dramaturga y periodista argentina, nació en Buenos Aires en 1834. Desde joven muestra una ferviente tendencia hacia la formación educativa femenina. Profesa la enseñanza y luego dirige el colegio privado que regenteaba Ana Bevans en el barrio bonaerense de Belgrano. En 1852, comienza su carrera literaria con la publicación de su propio periódico: La Camelia. Este bisemanario publicado por la imprenta Republicana nace después de la caída del dictador Juan Manuel de Rosas y contaba con la participación de varias colaboradoras anónimas.
