English summary: Qasem Anwar (1356-1434 or 1426), who dedicated most of his life to the mystical pursuit of God, is one of the most important Iranian poets of the Timurid period. There is much evidence to indicate that Anwar's poems remained popular long after his death and that his popularity, which subsequent dynasties fostered, has ensured the poet a place in cultural and intellectual history. Anwar is famous chiefly for his ghazals, the poetic form in which Anwar often worked, which this edition and translation offers to the German public for the first time. ""The Ghazals of Qasem Anwar"" is based on an extraordinary manuscript, complete with numerous illuminations, from Afghanistan, which contains the beginning of the collection of ghazals by Anwar (letters alif to dal). In addition to the important literary history, which accompanies the poems, there are numerous illuminations from the manuscript, which itself is an excellent testimonial to Islamic-Iranian book art. This edition contains all 217 ghazals that were in the manuscript as well as their translations and an afterword concerning the author and his work. Seventeen color photos provide an example of an illumination from each folio, typically with depictions of birds and animals.
