German description: Seit dem fruhesten Faustbuch, der 1587 erschienenen Historia von D. Johann Fausten, hat die Geschichte des Teufelsbundners Johannes Faustus eine ungebrochene Faszination ausgeubt und ist in zahleichen Texten immer wieder neu bearbeitet worden. Dabei ist die weltberuhmte Faust-Figur aber keineswegs gleich geblieben. Schon die hier untersuchten fruhesten Faustbucher, deren Reihe sich von 1587 bis 1725 erstreckt, haben die Geschichte des Teufelsbundners, der alle Grund am Himmel und auf Erden erforschen will und dafur dem Teufel nach Ablauf von 24 Jahren seinen Leib und seine Seele verschreibt, an zahlreichen Stellen verandert und umgeschrieben.
