Each chapter contains a brief biography of the composer, discussionof the background of the corresponding piece and formal analysis, exploration of the conductingchallenges and implemented solutions, and the performance notes. With a target audience ofcollegiate and professional conductors and musicians, the author hopes to guide musiciansthrough these important pieces with a hands on, realistic approach.

Dr. Burke D. Sorenson holds degrees in Music Education, Orchestral Conducting, and Educational Leadership. He has published books and numerous articles in publications such as Teaching Music, the American Teacher Journal, and the Instrumentalist. He is currently Director of Orchestral Studies and Head of Strings at Salt Lake Community College.
