This study is about the saint George the New, a martyr, who was burned by the Muslims in Sophia in 1515. It traces the dissemination of George's cult among the Eastern Slavs. Most of documents used are published for the first time. The study is really a multidisciplinary one, it applies methods of several fields: archeographia, textology, history, history of arts and literature, etc. Also included are texts of Russian lives ("zhitia") of George the New, liturgical texts and songs. The work was awarded at the Metropolitan Makarii (Bulgakov) contest of 1997. Indices, list of illustrations.
