Book Description Hardcover. Condition: New. Contents: 1. Introduction. 2. Taxonomical criteria. 3. Key to the species. 4. Taxonomical review. Bibliography. Plates. Index. The genus Strombomonas Deflandre is well known genus for a group of interesting and widely distributed Euglenoid Flagellata. The genus was proposed firstly by Deflandre (1930) and many taxa, 33 species and 28 varieties, were combined with this genus for the first time from the genus Trachelomonas. Since then, more taxa were successively described by the many authors from various regions in the world. Monographic studies were made by Conrad & Meel (1952), Huber-Pestalozzi (1955), Popova (1966), Asaul (1975), Starmach (1983), Tell & Conforti (1986) and Shi (1999). At present, a total of about 200 taxa are known in the world. Recently, Yamagishi has observed 19 taxa from Taiwan (1992) and 47 taxa from Southeast Asia (2010) through the floristic survey of the regions. Furthermore, Yamagishi rerecorded 35 taxa from Japan, Taiwan and Southeast Asia in the series of Photomicrographs of Freshwater Algae, vols. 8-18 (1988-1997). This book deals with the investigation on variability of shape and dimensions of the test relevant to main criteria of this genus, and taxonomical review of about 200 taxa described since Deflandre (1930). Many photographs of about 90 taxa made by the author throughout his previous works are used in this study for reexaminations comparing with the original figure of each taxon. Also, the morphological variability or stability of the test shape and dimensions are ascertained upon the photomicrographic observations of the collected specimens. (jacket).
