About the Author:

Dr. Subhas Sarkar is a former Shakespeare Professor and Head of the Dept. of English, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and Ex-Visiting Professor of English, Calcutta University, Assam University and Vidyasagar University, Midnapur, West Bengal. He has been contributing on T.S. Eliot for more than three decades and has been greatly admired by Professor K. Srinivasa Iyengar, Professor Laxmana Murthy, Professor K.B. Sitaramayya, H.M. Williams and many other scholars. He has to his credit a great number of books: Eliot and Yeats (1978), The Chorus in Eliot's Plays (1993), Literary Essays (1997), Education in India (1978), Kashmir (co-author), Literary Essays and Types of Literature (2002), Raater Mayur (book of Bengali poems, 1972), Alor Sandhane (book of Bengali poems, 1992) and A Selection of Jivanananda's Best Poems (Translation, in the press). He has contributed to several anthologies in English and Bengali on Indology, Bengali and English literature, on Tagore, V.S. Naipual, Translation and Modern Bengali poetry. He has contributed to several anthologies of Sahitya Akademi's Translations. He has also contributed a couple of hundreds of articles on Art, Sculpture, Literature, Sociology and Religion in The Statesman, The Telegraph, Hindustan Standard, Amrita Bazar Patrika, The Illustrated Weekly of India, Hindustan Times, Caravan, Mirror, etc., over the years. He won Shankar's Weekly International Essay Prize in 1950. He is a seminarist who has participated and presided over a number of national and international seminars.
