About the Author:

Alberto Clementi has been full professor in Urban Planning since 1987. He has taught at the following universities: Rome, Geneva and Algiers, where he was also co-ordinator of the Postgraduation en Urbanisme course and promoted the Sites Historiques course at the Ecole Polytechnique d'Architecture et urbaisme (1983-93). He was also invited as guest lecturer to the universities of Madrid, Valencia, Granada, Lisbon, Tunisi, Rio de Janiero, Bogota, Guanajuato, Mexico City, Toronto and San Francisco. In Pescara he actively promoted the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning (of which he was director from 1991 to 1997) and the Ph.D. course in Urban Planning (of which he has been co-ordinator since 1993). His recent research interests have been in the following areas: the shape of the city and the territory; issues relating to the planning for parklands and the landscape; and policies dealing with infrastructures and public works.
