About this title

Synopsis:

"YOU PROMISED NEVER TO PUT ME IN A NURSING HOME!" offers empowering information and practical advice to everyone confronting the difficult decision to put a loved one into a nursing facility. Written by an industry "insider," Janis D. Lasser reveals the truth about what to expect in a nursing home. This book's straightforward 5 Steps to Find the Best Nursing Home provide valuable information and immediate answers to questions many families ask. "YOU PROMISED NEVER TO PUT ME IN A NURSING HOME!" addresses the dilemma that 79 million Baby Boomers may now face and walks them through the entire emotional process. This book tells how to survive the nursing home decision and speaks with empathy for both generations. In this easy-to-read book, Lasser emphasizes the positive aspect of many elders leading a more enhanced life and, yes, possibly finding companionship and romance in this late stage of life in a nursing home. The author includes several colorful stories of nursing home residents she has known and punctuates several chapters with classical poetry to illustrate the emotions discussed. "YOU PROMISED NEVER TO PUT ME IN A NURSING HOME!" instructs Baby Boomers on how to prepare themselves and their families for their own future healthcare needs. With chapters such as, "What Your Parents Never Told You," "Old Soldiers Do Die," "Sex in the Witte and Other Tales of Romance," "When is it time?" "Making a Living on Dying," and "Alzheimer's: In Your Genes?" Lasser gives a message of hope to those facing the problems of aging parents, Alzheimer's and the cost of care today. Humor throughout this book is intended to help approach this difficult topic with ease and assist in making confident choices. A conversational tone, told with compassion, candor, humor and poetry make Janis D. Lasser's "YOU PROMISED NEVER TO PUT ME IN A NURSING HOME!" 5 Steps to Find the Best Nursing Home an unparalleled guide for a global issue.
