Printed as Volume VIII of Wiley and Putnamís Library of American Books, Poeís The raven was one of his most popular, and most famous American poems ever written. First published in the Evening Mirror, part of the American Review, a New York monthly periodical, it was an immediate success, and resulted in Wiley and Putnamís publication of Tales in June, 1845. Tales includes for the first time in book form all three Dupin stories (The murders in the Rue Morgue, The mystery of Marie Roget, and The purloined letter).
