Second edition, "improved," 8vo, 2 volumes in one, pp. xxiii, [1], 347, [1]; [4], 348; a clean copy, but in a very scuffed and somewhat worn contemporary paneled calf binding. An actor (under the management of Garrick) and a lecturing elocutionist, Walker published in 1774 A General Idea of a Pronouncing Dictionary. His seminal pronouncing dictionary was not published until 1791, but its roots are clearly traceable to this scarce rhyming dictionary (here in its secopnd edition) --"an attempt to facilitate the orthography and pronunciation of the English language."
