About this Item

Present here is a translation of Des maladies des femmes grosses et accouch?es, based upon the first French edition of 1668, which was first issued in German in 1681. A different German translation, based upon the second French edition was printed in Basel in 1680 under title Tractat von Kranckheiten schwangerer und geb?render Weibs-personen . This is the second edition of the 1681 edition and has a restrike of the engraved title-page of that edition, with "1680" date unchanged. The work deals with obstetrics, especially complications during pregnancy. The plates are mostly views of the foetus in the womb, but one folding plate is of obstetical instruments, and another is of sperm. 8vo. [8] ff., 605 (of 607), [1] pp., 21 [of 22?] plates (some fold.), lacks pp. 13-14. Half vellum over pastebaords covered with brown paper speckled with black. Binding worn; front hinge (inside) cracked but board holding strongly. Lacks one leaf of text (pp. 13-14) and apparently one plate. Over all a good+, defective, copy, and priced accordingly.
