Later edition of this classic and oft-reprinted work by the Scot who also penned the lyrics to "Rule, Britannia!" Added to this edition is Aikin's essay on the poem, as mentioned in the work's title. The plates are dated 1792. There were ten editions of The Seasons in 1794! And there were two issues of the Murray printing. This is the issue on royal paper with the date of printing in arabic numerals. Provenance: 20th-century bookplate of Louis E. Asher. 8vo. xlv, [3], 256 pp., 5 plts. ESTC T7153. Contemporary straight-grained red morocco, leather now much darkened and joints rubbed and starting to crack. An age-toned copy. Plates with foxing and so too the leaves opposite them.
