About this Item

Early 19th-century edition of this popular hymnal (without music), collected by a prominent Methodist supporter and originally printed in 1780. The volume is illustrated with the Countess of Huntingdon's coat of arms on an engraved title-page, and was published "By authority of her Ladyship's trustees" (publication date based on booksellers' years of activity). Indexes are included. Oblong 16mo (9.5 cm, 3.75"). [2], iv, [12], 496 pp. NSTC H836. Period-style large-grain calf, spine with gilt-stamped leather title-label; binding signed by Starr Bookworks. Title-page with institutional rubber-stamp (relatively inoffensive as such things go). Pages age-toned with light waterstaining to lower inner portions; some corners dog-eared. Frequent small inked annotations regarding authorship of hymns. A nice book. Bookseller Inventory # 24809
