From Foreword: This book is the story of the Lincoln & Welland Regiment from its earliest days to the end of the second World War, a period of 150 years. It is also in effect a history of the counties of Lincoln and Welland, since the activities of the militia have always been very closely connected with those of the people of the various municipalities comprising the counties. This was especially true during the pioneer times and at least up to the beginning of the first World War. From Introduction: In this book, a history fo the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, which traces itself back to the Lincoln Militia raised in Upper Canada in 1794. I have tried to provide a reliable account of what took place, but in doing so have left the reader to read into the text the emotions he felt at the time of these events. Consequently, I have not tried to express the feeling of the Regiment on the loss of individiaul officers and men: those who were with the Regiment will know how they felt as well as I.
