Publisher's original colour illustrated front cover, blue lettering to the spine and lower panel. 8vo 7'' x 5¼'' 160 printed pages of text. Professional restoration to the fore edge corners of the front cover, cheap paper browning, wrinkling of the paper to the spine, pencil name to the front cover. William Earle Johns, better known as Captain W. E. Johns the creator of Biggles, probably wrote this romantic flying adventure during a short period of unemployment after discharge from the R.A.F. in 1919. Mossyface was first published as a paperback in September 1922 by John Leng in their Weekly Telegraph Novel series [No. 121], a cheaply produced publication of which few survive. This, combined with Johns use of the pseudonym William Earle, which early collectors of his works failed to recognise, makes Mossyface a very rare item. Member of the P.B.F.A. JOHNS, Captain W. E.
