Greenish-blue cloth; spine toned with flaking/rubbing loss to still legible title/author lettering but with Hought imprint at heel difficult to discern; front board's gilt stamping still fairly bright; some bumping and light scuffing/fraying at spine ends and board corners. Darkened top edge; light toning to fore-edge; small stain to bottom edge. Endpapers toned; personal bookplate of William Alexander Percy affixed to front pastedown. Author's five-line ink inscription "For William Alexander Percy | from his friend, | Elsie Singmaster Lewars. | Gettysburg, | March, 1926." upon front free endpaper; a few spots of interior soiling/toning but pages overall remain clean. Binding is firm. Greenville, Mississippi attorney and poet William Alexander Percy is best known for his 1941 autobiography "Lanterns on the Levee." Acquired among a large collection of William A. Percy-owned books from a Greenville, Mississippi estate of a Walker Percy family descendant.
