Large paper edition, limited to 500 copies signed by the author, this being No. 196. Brown paper boards quarter bound with tan woven cloth. Paper label with titling affixed to spine. Top edge of text block gilt, other edges deckled. Spine with some staining and discoloration. Front hinge starting, rear hinge cracked. Book housed in a brown paper-covered slipcase with chips on open-faced edges. Better than Very Good in a Very Good slipcase. One of Walpole's best fiction works, a tale of the ecclesiastical hierarchy living by gossip, intrigue, and scandal.
