First combined edition of these two collections of short stories, and the first edition of A Mexican Campaign. Color Studdies was his first book. Octavo, 5 ff, 391 pp. (BAL 10813, binding B) Janvier (1849 - 1913), American by birth, lived for 7 years in Mexico, on his brother's coffee plantation in Vera Cruz state, but travelled around extensively. In addition to the present volumes, he wrote a lost race novel - very popular in its day -- and a good guide to Mexico. The stories in the first volume revolve around Greenwich Village in New York, where he lived intermittently, while the second volume is set in Mexico. Very nice copy with a lengthy pen inscription on the front blank of Janvier, from one of his stories, and signed by him.
