About this Item

Greene's novel, set in Haiti during the repressive "Papa Doc" Duvalier regime, was the source for the movie of the same name starring Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Alec Guinness. About fine in a near fine dw moderately toned on the spine and across the top edge. Laid in are two letters; the first is to Greene from the General Manager of The Tablet, asking Greene to provide a quote to use to promote the weekly newspaper, with Greene's handwritten 5-line quote at the bottom of the page; the second letter is a typed version of the same response that was sent back to General Manager Hugh Kealy. The letter's are dated 9th September, 1983 and 16 September 1983 respectively.
