About this Item
Teju Cole's first American book, "Open City" (2011) was a considerable success and led this American-Nigerian writer and photographer to re-work his debut novel, "Every Day Is For the Thief", which had been published in Nigeria in 2007, for publication in the UK and in this US edition, illustrated with his own photographs. This pristine first printing is inscribed by the author on the title page, signed and dated by him ("March 27, 2014" which was two days after the publication date). There is a lot of emphasis put on copies which are signed without a dedication, and people seem to prefer copies with just the author's signature (unless the inscription is to someone of note). But I have a different view: I don't care that a book might be inscribed by the author to someone I don't know - I just think that a copy over which the author has taken the time to write a personal message or dedication is more appealing than a copy he, or she, has opened and just dashed off a signature. The inscription speaks of a direct link between the author and the copy's purchaser and, to me at least, that makes it all the more special and desirable. Anyway, this is an author inscribed copy in as new, OOFTATS condition (Opened Only For The Author To Sign) with fine dust jacket. MC. Seller Inventory # 001332
