Volume Seven, Distinguished Poets Series Edited by Mary Owings Miller. Very Good + to Near Fine green cloth with gilt lettering & design, sans dust jacket. Moderate darkening & rubbing along spine with some toning at pagination edges. Inscribed "For Elaine _______ from George John - whose garland is now about her- Jan. 22, 1962 Milwaukee." Prose poems, musings, compiling sixty pages. Gertrude Stein's introduction dated Paris, 1945, states of the Author; "He like all the soldiers had been many places.and everywhere there were landscapes and all the landscapes were poems. He wa the only one to whom that happened and he was a poet." George John is mentioned in James R. Mellow's Charmed Circle: Gertrude Stein and Circle of 1974. Mr. John was a bookseller in Milwaukee and was in later years, when I met him in the late 1990s, rather undeservedly reluctant of this and another published volume, allegedly buying any copies he came across to clear them from the secondhand market. Thus, quite rare indeed.
