#3 of the "Limited Autographed Louisiana Edition". Signed twice by Clarence John Laughlin, once below the limitation and also with his inscription. The inscription reads: "for Fritz Swigart with Warmest Appreciation. Clarence John Laughlin, April 1948". Fritz Swigart was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and friend of Laughlin. He was executive of his own advertising agency and promoter of the arts, jazz in particular. He was responsible for many New Orleans jazz and music festivals throughout the years. Laughlin was a jazz aficianado so perhaps this was one of their bonds. Below Laughlin's inscription is one of Swigart's " and for the Metcalfs' who proved conclusively that the War was fought in vain! June, 1956". A Very Good copy of the 1948 true First Edition with the letter 'A' and the Scribner colophon on the copyriight page. Illustrated with 100 of Laughlin's black-and-white photographs. Folio. Clean copy in very good condition in a very good bright dustjacket with only slight edgewear and some slight chipping to the top of the back of the dustjacket. The dustjacket is not price-clipped.There is a slight loosening of the front hinge, otherwise the book is in near fine condition with no marks, soiling or other defects. Photos provided upon request.
