Deluxe Issue, one of 26 lettered copies specially bound and signed by the author on the colophon, this being copy 'P'. Octavo (23.5cm); photo-illustrated paper-covered boards and shimmery red patterned cloth backstrip, with title label mounted to spine; [8],9-283,[9]pp. An original oil painting (with accompanying wax paper guards) is tipped-in following the copyright page, and Bukowski has further inscribed this copy opposite the title page: "For Michael Mieure / I'll think of you among the hardware / Hold / Hank / Charles Bukowski." Touch of dust-soil to board extremities, faint foxing to text edges; Near Fine in a supplied, Near Fine acetate dustjacket. Bukowski's fourth novel, chronicling his painful upbringing in a militant household, and his contentious relationship with his parents. One the great American literary memoirs, ranking among the best of his work. Uncommon in the deluxe issue. Krumhansl 74f.
