First American edition, second printing of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone" (the USA-adapted title of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"), signed in October 1998 by J.K. Rowling on the verso of the half-title page. The book was signed during Rowling's first American tour, during which she met groups of only 100-200 people. This situation would change drastically the following year for her second American tour, after the Harry Potter hype had taken off. Signed American editions with a 1998 signature are therefore extremely rare. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity (LoA) from Adam Houston (TheHarryPotterSpecialist), the world's sole J.K. Rowling signature expert and an informative collector's card that provides additional details. The book is in near fine, unread condition with bumped spine ends, minor scratches on some page edges, and, inconspicuously due to the use of a black pen on a green background, the previous owner's name on the first free endpaper. The first-state dust jacket, featuring a review from The Guardian on the rear panel, is also in near fine condition. The jacket is slightly wrinkled at the spine ends but without fading or noticeable wear .A highly collectible early signed Harry Potter book, housed in a beautiful custom-made half-leather clamshell box. Mary GrandPré (illustrator). First edition, first print. Signed by the author to the first blank with a 1998 signature during Rowling's very first US tour in October of that year, when the author only signed a limited number of books, unlike her later tours, when the towering piles began to appear. As such this is a very desirable signature for the Harry Potter collector, belonging as it does to the first batch of signed US titles. The book is in very fine condition, with firm and sharp boards and corners. In very fresh and seemingly unread condition, with no interior marks. One small spot to the bottom edge of the text block (see the photos) and very faint mark to the text block top edge, otherwise the book is superb and highly collectable condition. The correct first state jacket, with The Guardian blurb to the lower panel, is not price-clipped and in very fine condition, with no issues, bar a very small scratch to the upper panel. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Harry Potter Specialist, who only specialises in JK Rowling's signature and is therefore an authority on the idiosyncrasies and recognisable features of the author's signature through the years. Also comes with original invoice of the sale of the signed book from a US bookshop in 2008. Seller Inventory # ABE-1763904458838
