Inscribed by Lillian Hellman on the front flyleaf. An English-language adaption of Jean Anouilh's play, L'Alouette (1952), based on the trial of Joan of Arc, called The Lark. Leonard Bernstein composed incidental music for the first production, which opened on Broadway on November 17, 1955. Octavo. Original cloth binding, with a photographic illustration inset on the front panel and black and gilt stamping. A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with just a hint of edgewear.

Established in 1981, johnson rare books & archives is located at The Book Shop in downtown Covina, about 20 miles east of Los Angeles. The shop is open six days a week and houses an inventory of some 30,000 titles, ranging from the general second-hand to the truly antiquarian.
