String-tied wrappers, approx. 5 1/2" wide by 9" tall, 24 pages. Ad for "The Chorister's Guide" published by West & Richardson on the rear cover. Untrimmed pages. Inscribed by Noah Worcester to John Comly, and dated 1818 on the first page. St. John's, Newfoundland had two fires in 1817 which were jointly named as the Great Fire of 1817. This pamphlet outlines some of the aid sent from Boston. St. John's was to experience more fires in 1819, and later in the century, in 1849 and 1892. The inscribee, John Comly (1773-1850), was a Quaker minister and school master. He married a fellow teacher at the Westtown School, Rebecca Budd, and together they ran the Pleasant Hill School on their Byberry Farm from 1804-1815. Canada, Pacifism 110504A.
