([16.5cm x 23.5cm] approx. 223 pp. Front cover shows portrait of Mary Tighe by George Romney. The rear is a map of Ireland showing four great houses. Inscribed by the author to the half title and scarce in that respect. Book has a very small knock to one corner but is otherwise in fine condition. The book is profusely illustrated in colour and black and white. Mary Tighe is best known for her fine poem 'Psyche, or, the Legend of Love' and for her sonnets. She was born in Dublin in 1772 and died of tuberculosis, aged 37. Her father was Librarian of Marsh's Library and her mother, Theodosia was a prominent Methodist. She married her first cousin, Henry Tighe but the relationship did not last. She is said to have influenced the writings of Keats, Byron, Shelley and Christina Rossetti amongst others. The covers will be protected with a new inert archival 100 micron sleeve which is removable. Please contact us if you would like any more information or additional images.
