Known as one of the funniest Canadian political gladiators in recent memory, Deborah Grey looms larger than life on Parliament Hill, dressing as she does in black leather and arriving for work astride her metal warhorse. She is the author of such memorable sobriquets as "Shawinigan Strangler" (Jean Chretien, "Binder Boy" (former Chretien fixer Don Boudria), "Miss Management" (former human resources minister Jane Stewart), and "Captain Whirlybird" (Paul Martin). A politician's politician, Grey certainly has a way with words: On Martin's refusal to help the military she said "Tanks for nothing," and refers to her friend and mentor Preston Manning as "Misterbrainiola." Fifteen years ago Grey made Canadian history by becoming the first Reform Party MP and saw her one seat in 1989 grow to 52 seats in 1993 and to 60 seats in 1997, forming the Official Opposition. The Reform Party merged with other conservative-minded people across the country and formed the Canadian Alliance in the spring of 2000. That year, the new party won 66 seats and continued as the Official Opposition. She has been instrumental in the formation of the new Conservative Pary of Canada.

A former high school teacher, social conservative and Christian, Deborah Grey arrived in Ottawa as the first Reform MP ever elected, and hired the young Stephen Harper as her first legislative assistant She is known for her frank opinions, and of course, her unique way of telling it as it is.
