178 pages. First printing of the first edition in the original deluxe binding: green cloth-covered boards, with a fancy gilt title that does not appear on the cover of the trade edition. In June 1879 the editor of the Dayton Journal, William D. Bickham, along with 134 other journalists and family members, took a train trip from Cincinnati to Denver (and environs). After their return Bickham wrote a series of letters about the trip which were published in his newspaper. This book reprints those letters. Bickham was a staunch Republican. Nonetheless he inscribed this copy of his book to Samuel S. Cox, a staunch Democrat who served many terms in Congress, first from Ohio, then from New York. Cox later was the U. S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. The book is clean, bright, and tight, with just a hint of toning to the pages. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Seller Inventory # W1204
