From 1962 to 1991 Szarkowski was the Director of Photography at New York's Museum of Modern Art. The Photographer's Eye juxtaposes masters such as Cartier-Bresson, Evans, Steichen, Strand, and Weston with vernacular documents to analyze the fundamental challenges photographers have faced.
