About this Item
Harper One; an imprint of Harper Collins. New York. 2012. 245 pages. First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by Rodney King on the front free endpaper. Book is fine; tight, clean and crisp with 4 sharp corners. $25.99 price intact on the DJ flap. Binding and hinges are strong. Pages lay tight and undisturbed, seemingly unread. Notoriously, King was the victim of a brutal police beating that was captured on video and quickly circulated around the world. After the initial trial of the four police officers involved in the beating ended without a conviction, the verdicts seemingly lit the fuse of a bomb that exploded into the LA Riots of 1992. Feeling pressured to address the people of Los Angeles, King made his eponymous plea "Can't we all just get along?" The riots lasted six days and resulted in 63 deaths, 2,383 injuries, 3,100 damaged businesses and more than 7,000 fires; a cumulative financial loss exceeding one billion dollars. Smaller riots took place across the U.S., most notably in Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Seattle.Twenty years after the events that changed America, Rodney King released his autobiography recounting the famous event, ensuing trials and riots, as well as his own struggles before and after March 3, 1991. Sadly just eight weeks after the publication of this autobiography, Rodney King would be found unresponsive after being pulled from the bottom of his pool. Rodney King will forever be remembered as a man who was inadvertently thrust into the eye of the storm; a storm that defined Los Angeles, police brutality, the justice system and racial unrest in America at the close of the 20th century. A most uncommon and rare offering; a signed and inscribed first edition, first printing; fine. Seller Inventory # 002873
