First Impression. Octavo (22.25cm); black cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; [vi],293,[5]pp. Inscribed by the author on the title page to Charles Tomlinson and his wife: "For Charles and Brenda / A piece of craziness, which, as you know, has a long history and owes a lot to you / Affectionately, always / Bruce." Spine ends gently nudged, trivial dust-soil to lower board edges, with the faintest trace of foxing to endpapers; contents clean; Near Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced £10.95 net), showing light wear to extremities, and some faint foxing to flaps and on verso; Near Fine. An attractive copy of one of Chatwin's two best-known works part Australian travelogue, and part discourse on Aboriginal song and it's relationship to nomadic travel. An uncommonly warm association to English poet Charles Tomlinson (1927-2015), Chatwin's close friend and Gloucestershire neighbor, long a soundingboard, whose influence on the writing of this volume is evident from the inscription.
