Hardcover in Near-Fine condition in a very good dust jacket, 8vo. Gray paper-covered boards, black leather tips and shelf-back, paper label on spine, black-and-white portrait frontis and 6 black-and-white plates, appendix, index. First printing. Card signed by author Richards laid in. Howe, 1801-1876, was an American physician and abolitionist; author Richards is his daughter. Very light wear, tips sharp and binding tight, book plate on front paste-down, dust jacket spine ends worn, not price clipped ($2.50). Bookplate of C.B. Farrar on front paste-down. Clarence Farrar, 1874-1970, was an American-born psychiatrist who served in the Canadian army and practiced in Toronto (his office entrance is pictured in this bookplate); he was a pioneer in treating "shell-shock" (PTSD).
