Rare document signed by Theodore Roosevelt as President. One page, partially printed and accomplished in manuscript, the document is dated February 13, 1908, and appoints Robert Eaton as "Collector of Internal Revenue for the District of Connecticut." Signed at the conclusion byÂTheodoreÂRoosevelt, and countersigned by Secretary of Treasury George B. Cortelyou. Gold foil seal remains affixed. The printed document reads in full: To all who shall see these presents greeting: Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the Integrity, Diligence and Discretion of "Robert O. Eaton" I have Nominated and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate do Appoint him "Collector of Internal Revenue for the District of Connecticut" and do authorize and empower him to execute and fulfill the duties of that office according to law, and to have and to hold the said office with all the rights and emoluments thereunto legally appertaining unto him, the said "Robert O. Eaton" until a successor shall have been appointed and duly qualified. In testimony whereof I have caused these Letters to be made Patent and the Seal of the Treasury Department of the United States to be hereunto affixed Given under my hand at the City of Washington, the "thirteenth" day of "February" in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and "eight" and of the Independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and "thirty-second." Theodore Roosevelt was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909.
