Frans Blom (1893-1963) was a Danish explorer and archeologist known for his work in Mesoamerica. During 1925, he traveled with American anthropologist Oliver La Farge (1901?1963) to what is now known as the Olmec heartland under the auspices of Tulane University.** This copy is inscribed by Frans Blom, "To Norman and Mira Armour, thanking for their friendship." Norman Armour (1887-1982) was an American diplomat who grew up in New Jersey and whose career in the U.S. Department of State extended across both World Wars. In Russia at the time of the Russian Revolution, Armour escaped from the new Soviet regime, along with his future wife, the nobly born Mira.** On the verso of the title page is a note stating, "An edition of fifty numbered copies of this book has been printed on special paper."
