On prelim are 18 signatures: "To a great warden and a good friend appreciating both his hospitality and his book: Karl Kingsley Kitchen, Collier Ford, Oscar Cooper, Hamilton Thompson, Jack Pait, John L. Schoenfeld, Frank Callan Norris, Harold E I Williams, Harry Scherman, Louis Reid, Richard Roy Smith, Ray Long, Thomas Meighan, William L. Chenery, Robert Morss Lovett, James Donald Adams, James R. Quirk, Thomas L St. (???). I have identified 11 signatures as follows: Karl Kingsley Kitchen - (1885 - ? ) author; John L. Schoenfeld - (Printer of post cards and menus); Frank Callan Norris - author; Harry Scherman (1887-1969) Publisher and Economist, in 1916 established Little Leather library, in 1926 co-founded Book-of-the-Month Club with Robert Hass; Richard Roy Smith - (1885-1957) Publisher; Ray Long - (1878-1935) Publisher; Thomas Meighan - (1879-1936) Actor of silent films and early talkies starring opposite Mary Pickford and Gloria Swanson; William L. Chenery - Editor of Collier's from 1925-1943; Robert Morss Lovett - ( 1870-1956) American educatorand writer. Assoc. editor of "The New Republic" 1921-1940; James Donald Adams - author and editor; James R. Quirk (1884-1932) vice-president and editor of "Photoplay Magazine" from 1918-1929. Stamped in gilt on spine and both boards, Dentelled edge in gilt inside both boards. Marbled endpages. Top page edges in bright gilt. Front board has been expertly reattached otherwise leather and hinges are in fine shape. Belonged to a a descendent of the author, the famous Sing Sing warden. Very Good condition.
