Bernard Bellush was an American historian and journalist, best known for his work and teachings on labor history and labor relations, particularly on the American labor movement. After earning his PhD from Columbia in 1951, he joined the faculty of City College of New York, his alma mater, where he led a long and distinguished academic career until his death in 2011 at the age of 94, holding the title of Professor Emeritus. Bellush s book, He Walked Alone: A Biography of John G. Winant, explores the life and political career of Winant, a former governor of New Hampshire and U.S. Ambassador to the UK during World War II. The biography highlights Winant s strong commitment to labor relations and social welfare, but primarily focuses on his role as Ambassador, where he played a key part in strengthening ties between the U.S. and Britain during wartime.
