Sub-titled: "A History of American Commerce by One Hundred Americans with a Chronological Table of the Important Events of American Commerce and Invention Within the Past One Hundred Years, Issued in Commemoration of the Completion of the First Century of American Commercial Progress as Inaugurated by the Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation Negotiated by Chief Justice Jay and Approved by President Washington in 1795." An impressive production, being a virtual encyclopedia of the history of American business with chapters on banking, imports and exports, Wall Street, insurance, ship-building, the telegraph, horticulture, railroads, printing, and many other aspects of American commerce, one hundred in all, with engraved photos of the authors of the articles, all of whom were outstanding in their respective fields.
