A signed copy of this memoir by Huncke, progenitor of the term "beat." Though Kerouac coined the phrase "the Beat Generation" in 1948, he credited the original use of the word to Huncke. Allen Ginsberg contributed the introduction to this volume, in which he writes, "Huncke s prose proceeds from his midnight mouth, that is, literal storytelling, just talking … What is excellent as prose in The Evening Sun Turned Crimson is naked city man speech, clear and magnanimous as personal conversation.". Red photographic wraps. 225 pp. 8 1/4 x 5 3/8 in. Signed by Huncke on the title-page. 4 pp of photographs at end. Very good; trifle rubbing, short closed marginal tear to p. 59/60.
