All edges gilt. Marbled end papers. Pasted to the front board, inside, is a letter from Russell to his doctor which says; 'Dear Dr Wells, I ask your acceptance of this little volume of very egotistical memories as a souvenir of an unprofitable but grateful patient. Yours very truly W H Russell' dated November 30th 1898. The book also has a dedication on the verso of the first title page.
