Signed limited edition, number 148 of 750 copies signed by the artist. This is a revised and enlarged edition of the work originally published in 1900, with some new illustrations, as well as others redrawn and coloured. As noted by Rodney Engen, "Rackham greatly loved fairy tales and had collected his many favourites over the years. The Brothers Grimm held a special place in his collections since they represented his love of all things German and contained the elements of the grotesque which fascinated him throughout his career". Riall, p. 97. Engen, Arthur Rackham, 2002. Quarto. Colour frontispiece and 39 colour plates tipped in as issued, with captioned tissue guards, black and white illustrations in text. Original vellum, spine and front cover lettered and elaborately decorated in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Original silk tie loosely inserted. Gift inscription dated 1909 on front free endpaper. Spine foot bumped, light soiling of vellum, occasional spot of foxing, bright overall. A very good copy. Seller Inventory # 187331
