Add to basketIn the foreground a smith shoes a working horse. In the background a smith is working on an anvil near a forge. Etching on wove paper, sheet size 269 x 174 mm., platemark 145 x 114 mm. Signed by Cornelis Schermer in the plate. Undated, made c. 1835-1915. The print bears a signature in pencil on the verso (unclear wether this is the signature of the artist). Cornelis Albertus Johannes Schermer (The Hague 1824-1915) was a Dutch printmaker, draughtsperson and painter. He was mostly active in The Hague, but worked in Bouvignes-sur-Meuse from 1880 to 1903. In good condition, a nice and deep impression. Some small damages (a crease and a small tear, some tiny nicks) in the margin edges. A few tiny spots in the left margin.
